If everyone is starving, why is the bakery up and running? To bake requires flour, eggs, and milk. At the age of 16, Katniss was entered 20 times, but Prim was entered only once. The price of the tesserae is to have your name entered into the reaping an extra time. The real reason that Katiss and her family are so poor is because Prim doesn't sign up for tesserae, that is, extra grain and oil. But because District 12 is so poor and remote, the power isn’t that reliable. And having a bow and arrows runs the risk of a public execution.īy the way, that fence isn’t for show: for all that Katniss slips through it regularly, it’s meant to be electrified. Yes, there are a few who don’t mine, but for the most part, to do anything else-including saving yourselves from starvation-is illegal. After that, yeah, she could pick off the boy from District 3, but chooses to go after the Careers' supplies instead. When she does, she’s knocked unconscious by tracker-jacker poison. She rarely encounters tributes after she finds the bow. She also doesn’t really get much of an opportunity. I believe that staying far away from the Pack was a much better idea. ![]() Throughout the games, Katniss is outnumbered, and unless your name is Robin Hood, heavily wooded areas aren’t conducive to arrows in a straight fight. Why won't Katniss use her bow to pick people off at long range? I imagine the sponsors were shown in the commercial breaks in the actual footage. So, yeah, it’s true we didn’t see sponsors in the movie, but we don’t really see them in the book either. You would think that if you were spending money on a life-saving gift, in a show that was watched by all 12 districts, you would want your name emblazoned on the cannister for all to see. But when the gifts arrived, they came with a note from Haymitch, not from the actual sponsors. Katniss’ mentor, Haymitch, recruited sponsors for her, and their gift of burn cream likely saved her leg. Why weren’t the sponsors, actually, ya know, sponsoring? By taking away their food, Katniss is taking away their ability to sustain themselves. The Careers, who’ve spent their lives training for fighting rather than survival, can’t. With Katniss’ hunting skills and Rue’s ability to tell which plants are edible, they can feed themselves. Why does Katniss blow up the food supply?Īt this point in the movie, Katniss has allied herself with Rue. They let Peeta live because they believe he has information to help them get to her. The Careers were jealous that Katniss scored an 11 in her pre-game rating-the highest of all the tributes.
